My Holy Grail Skincare for the Cold Weather

I would never have thought to be writing this, but the fact is that San Diego is the coldest it has ever been. Which means most of us are rocking dry patches and flaky lips, not a good look. For someone who has lived in San Diego for quite some time, I can definitely say my skin and I was not prepared, until now. After some trial and error, I can unmistakably say I got you covered with a solution that will help you navigate through this cold weather. The remedy? A simple skincare routine that will keep your best asset glowing all year-round. Let’s get into it.

1. EXFOLIATE

Winter is all about keeping the skin exfoliated. I exfoliate every other day or whenever my face needs it. To keep the flakiness away, I use two core products to achieve hydrated skin. At night, I like to remove the dead skin cells that surface my face using the Fresh Sugar Face Polish. This product helps you scrub away any unwanted dry patches while leaving your skin smooth and hydrated. On the other hand, if I want an extra touch of exfoliation, I use my holy grail product Peter Thomas Roth Peeling Gel. This gel is a lifesaver when it comes to uneven texture and dryness. The gel visibly peels all dead skin cells from your face, which you can see, it’s very satisfying.

2. CLEANSE

Cleansing is without a doubt a must-do to keep your skin looking radiant. In the cold months, I like using a cleansing balm to melt all my makeup off. It gets the job done and leaves my skin looking hydrated and silky smooth. My favorite is Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm. I also use the Clarisonic along with a gentle cleanser every day to keep my skin looking its best. The tool not only cleanses, but it also firms, depuffs, and exfoliates. Hands down it is my favorite device to help keep my skin extra clean and remove all leftover makeup. The cleanser I recommend is Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser because it doesn’t stripe your skin’s moisture .

3. MOISTURIZE

Moisture, moisture, moisture! When it comes to the cold weather moisturizing with the right products is the key to healthy plump skin. First, let us talk eyes. My all-time favorite is the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream which helps depuff and brightens the eye area. It’s my secret to maintaining my under-eyes looking radiant, perfect for underneath concealer.

For a punch of hydration, a serum or face oil is the way to go. They are extremely important to have in a skincare routine, especially if you are experiencing dry skin. If you are willing to splurge I highly recommend Eve Lom Intense Hydration Serum, this product will boost moisture to give you long-lasting hydration that you haven’t had in days. Another amazing product and cult favorite is Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. The face oil is perfect to include in your everyday routine, especially because of its vitamin C and rose ingredients, it can make you feel like Spring is right around the corner. Not to add, that it will visibly brighten and hydrate your skin like no other.

Finally, what we have all been waiting for, it’s time to talk moisturizers. I have two moisturizers to recommend. The first one is definitely what turned my skin around and its Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream. If I could only recommend one product, it’s hands down this one. The second moisturizer is Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer which is great to dab on before applying your makeup, leaving you with a glowing base. If you enjoy treating yourself, a face mask is a great option. This one will give your face a boost back to life; it’s Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask. Just apply the product before going to bed and wake up with soft, smooth, and hydrated skin.

Lastly, don’t think I forgot about lips. I personally suffer from dry lips year-round (ask my boyfriend). But, the only products that keep my lips at bay are these: Fresh Sugar Lip Polish Exfoliator, Vaseline (yes, vaseline), First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Intensive Lip Balm, and Smith’s Rosebud Salve Balm. I use the sugar exfoliator to scrub all the dead skin off my lips, which I love to do in the mornings. I then use the rosebud balm as my chapstick during the day or before lip products. Lastly, I interchange between Vaseline or First Aid Beauty’s lip balm at night before going to bed. Personally, if my lips are severely dry I apply Vaseline, if not I apply the lip balm.
