Hello, my loves! Today on the blog, I want to share my Birthday Getaway that happened a few months back. Because I love to travel I decided that for my 23rd b-day I wanted to celebrate by taking a trip somewhere. And that somewhere ended up being Cancun. If you ever want to take explore the beauty of Mexico’s beaches, the Cancun is the place. Here I will share what I did and my recommendations to make your next Cancun visit a memorable one.
Day 1: Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen was where we stayed during our five-day trip. We stayed at my beautiful friend’s home in a residential called Playacar. Playa del Carmen is a resort town along the Yucatán Peninsula’s Riviera Maya. The town is known for its palm-lined beaches and coral reefs. Its Quinta Avenida or Fifth Avenida is a street that contains many shops, restaurants, and nightspots like bars and clubs. If you want to party the night away La Quinta is the place.
Highlights of my favorite places in Playa:
- Seafood Restaurant – Las Hijas de la Tostada
- Beach Club – Mamita’s Beach Club
- Night Club – Mandala
- Tacos – El Fogón
- Shopping Mall – Playacar Center
Day 2: Chichen Itza Ruins and Cenote Ik Kil
Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins
On Thursday we decided to take a day trip to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and then visit a cenote nearby. Chichen Itza is astonishing, no wonder its part of one of the seven wonders of the world. I recommend taking a tour with a guide because there is a story behind the ruins and it’s very interesting to learn about.
Cenote Ik Kil
Next, we went off to the famous Cenote of Ik Kil which is nearby. If you want to take photos I recommend you go early because this place is often very crowded. The cenote is open to the sky and the water is approximately 85 feet deep. There is a carved stairway down to the swimming area and a platform where one can jump off. The sight is beautiful and I recommend you visit if you are already planning to visit the ruins.
Day 3: Cozumel Island
One place that I was recommended the most by friends was to visit island of Cozumel. On Friday, we took a ferry from the Playa del Carmen port to Cozumel. One thing that I will say is that if your prone to seasickness than beware to have the worst forty minutes of your life. I experienced it.
When arriving we picked up the car we rented at Playa before getting on the ferry (it’s cheaper) and drove off to a virgin beach. We stumbled upon a completely empty beach that had gorgeous smooth white sand and steady waves. We enjoyed the sunset while we drank and had snacks on the beach. By far it was one of my favorite days of the trip. I highly recommend it!
Day 4 and 5: Tulum
Where do I even start with Tulum? It’s by far the trendiest, chicest, and most popular place to travel right now in Mexico. It is loved by many celebrities, influencers, and tourists from around the world and now I know why.
Day 4
The first day in Tulum we went to a beach club called Boa Tulum. It is a good option to go if you are not staying in Tulum. Especially, if just want to relax and enjoy the beach while sipping on amazing cocktails.

Shop Cancun Inspired Looks
Later that evening we visited Casa Malca which is a boutique hotel that used to be Pablo Escobar’s mansion. This place features the famous couch swing that is seen on Instagram from many people that visit Tulum.

Day 5
Because we could not get enough of Tulum we decided to visit again on our last day. This time we wanted a change of vibe and went to the Papaya Playa Project. The place is not only known for its cool design, but also because of the music. Papaya Playa Project makes music a key component of the experience by bringing the best DJs to play in its events. Also, take some time to visit the restaurant that sits right on the beach. I recommend ordering the Tuna Tartar and the Prime Beef Taco.

If dedicating an entire blog post isn’t enough, the Cancun trip was a success. Definitely, a five-day trip to Cancun wasn’t enough to explore everything I had planned. Nevertheless, I hope you find this information valuable if you are traveling to Cancun anytime time soon. I know I will be going back and be prepared for more RECs.
Love yours truly,
